Which Type of Massage is Right for You?

Each type of massage is unique and therefore uses different techniques to best address the patient’s needs. Here is a list of messages that are popular in massage parlors.

Swedish massage – A Swedish massage is a common form of western massage and offers the patient a variety of techniques that will relax the mind and the body. The message applies light, moderate or deep pressure to muscles or bones to increase the motion in the joints and to promote blood circulation. The increase oxygen flow in the blood helps to release toxins from the body.

Shiatsu – The Shiatsu massage style is a hands-on therapy which originates from Japan. The two main Shiatsu schools are one based on western anatomical and physiological theory, while the other follows traditional Chinese medicine. Shiatsu massages are performed on the floor and use pressure using the fingers or the entire palm. Shiatsu is used to treat headaches, insomnia, injury recovery, and more.

Thai Massage – Thai massages use stretching and pressure points to put pressure on energy channels. Asian massage parlors practice these messages on the floor and request that their clients wear comfortable clothing to increase movement. This form of massage uses yoga-like poses to increase stretching and to promote muscle recovery.
